Grand River Blues Camp!
It's Time for Year Three and it’s not too late to register !
The Grand River Blues Society is continuing its quest to educate young people about the blues with year three of the wildly successful
This will be a day-camp experience for young musicians from 12-18 years of age. Blues Campers will benefit from instruction by and performance experience with local, working blues musicians; a unique learning experience for young musicians; a mentoring opportunity (and additional revenue) for local blues musicians. This year’s Grand River Blues Camp will be held from August 3 to August 6 - the week leading up to the Kitchener Blues Festival.
Young musicians who play guitar, drums, bass, vocals, keyboards, horns or harmonica will find this a wonderful opportunity to learn about blues and meet other young musicians. During the week campers will learn about the history and influence of blues on modern music. They will learn new licks, how to jam, how to set up and perform on stage, and form their own bands.
Registration for the camp this year is $150 per camper, which will include lunch each day.
*** The Camp will end with a culminating performance by campers on Friday afternoon, August 6 "the new Clock Tower Stage in Victoria Park" at the Kitchener Blues Festival. The Grand River Blues Camp Showcase will be an amazing opportunity to participate in the Festival and to perform for friends and family. ***

As everyone knows Monday nights have been going through some changes. After the big fire that ruined most of the plaza, Angie has been keeping in contact with the owners of Caesar Martini's, and their reopening brings a new schedule which starts up some new projects for them. Unfortunately swing dancing is not among the events that they have retained.
The KWSDS has had a great run there and we've been looking at other options but we don't want to jump too quickly into a new venue that doesn't fit well with our dance needs. Furthermore, with other weekly options now available, we don't feel the need to rush things as long as everyone still has dancing to go to. So on the Monday nights that you're looking to dance, we encourage you to take advantage of the live music that's now offered at Maxwell's, and there's also dancing in Waterloo park on Thursday nights, among the other events that are available.
In other news, now that's it's officially summer there are some big annual events that are coming up... not only things out of town but there's the Uptown Waterloo Jazz Festival (July 16-18) and the Kitchener Blues Festival (Aug 5-8) right here in town, and they're both free! Whether you're planning to dance or not, these events have incredible live music with world-class musicians and they are free to attend, so you really want to take advantage, especially this year with the weather treating us so well.

TD Kitchener Blues Festival has something for everyone! The free 4-day event celebrates the best of the blues - electric, R&B, gospel, swing, acoustic on 5 stages with a spectacular variety of unique bbq foods in a vibrant urban setting.
The event always follows the weekend of the “Civic Holiday” in Canada, starting on Thursday Award night, then all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The positive energy of sharing in this experience begins and ends with the over 200 volunteers who make this happen. Business participation through sponsorship becomes part of that same spirit of community and sharing in the music, food and good times. The video screens helped to share and extend the experience to shoppers and families as far as the children's museum. We have the reputation of a family oriented festival, with a diverse audience of all ages and cultures.
We depend on sponsorship to support the event and local as well as national brands are investing in this event where last year 65,000 were in attendance over 3 days.
SEATING: Seating is mixed though not reserved at our 5 stages. At the festival there are 4 separate licensed festival beer gardens with some seating. There are family areas and free seating on King Street which is closed for 3 days. All is first-come-first-served. Throughout downtown Kitchener you will find vibrant restaurants and clubs which support the TD Kitchener Blues Festival. Some people like to bring their own folding chairs.

HOSTS: MICHAEL & LOUISE PICKETT
It's that time again.. to tell you that Michael and I are presenting our Third Annual Concert for Peace - at our home in Crystal Beach. I could ramble on about it here but look... I would rather send you directly to a special page on Michael's site where you can take your time and go through the details at your leisure. What I will say is that this year promises to be even more wonderful... I keep thinking that it isn't possible - the first two years exceeded our expectations.
Our musical lineup is extraordinary - of the five acts, three have multiple JUNO nominations and one is a JUNO winner (World Music).
Once again, the music will be eclectic and world class; the food fabulous and plentiful; the atmosphere magical. And we offer it all to you in support of World Peace and Environmental Awareness.
We welcome you to our home.
Warmest Regards,
Louise Pickett

Crystal Beach, ON Canada L0S 1B)

CONCERT FOR PEACE 2010
Sunday, September 5
2PM to 10PM
Crystal Beach, ON Canada L0S 1B)
